The Purchasing Manager will provide strategic leadership and management of purchasing activities to align with company financial goals. Responsible for ensuring high-quality, cost-effective procurement processes that contribute to financial efficiency and resource management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Strategic Procurement and Vendor Management

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies that align with company objectives.
  • Cultivate strong vendor relationships to ensure high-quality and cost-effective supply of goods and services.
  • Lead negotiations for key contracts and agreements to maximize cost savings and value.

Budget and Expense Management

  • Oversee budget allocation for purchasing across departments and branches, ensuring cost control without compromising quality.
  • Analyze purchase data to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Manage the capital expenditure review process, ensuring compliance with financial policies and providing insights to the CFO.

Operations and Process Optimization

  • Implement best practices for purchasing processes, including on-line ordering systems, to streamline procurement.
  • Evaluate and optimize vendor performance through data analysis and strategic sourcing techniques.
  • Maintain accurate vendor documentation and past purchase records to leverage historical data for future procurement.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Recruit, train, and mentor purchasing staff, fostering a high-performance culture aligned with company core values.
  • Evaluate team performance, providing feedback and development plans to enhance skill sets and productivity.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives and encourage innovative ideas to advance departmental effectiveness.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Finance, Marketing, Operations, Information Services, and other departments to support company-wide purchasing needs.
  • Maintain clear communication channels, proactively resolving cross-functional issues related to procurement.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the CFO on procurement metrics, budget variances, and vendor performance.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in Business, experience in Purchasing function
  • Management/Supervisor experience required
  • Willingness to learn, be trained, and coach
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to communicate with team members and customers
  • Experience with EFP software, especially inventories and fixed assets
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Highly self-directed
  • Travel to evaluate new products, and for training, or assisting other employees and travel to branches or other locations as required to perform assigned duties
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle operators' license
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands

    REPORTING LOCATION

  • This position reports to 10001 Linn Station Rd, Louisville, KY 40223.
  • This is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days of in-office presence each week. Remote work may be allowed for the remaining days, with flexibility based on business needs and alignment with department policies.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

• Safety glasses, steel-toe boots, safety vests, etc., when appropriate or required per shop, customer or site location

• Not required on a daily basis
